Rhyl War Memorial

The central war memorial was first erected in 1904 in memory of  six Rhyl men who died during the Boer War in South Africa ( 1899-1902).

It was originally situated on West Parade, near John Street. It was later moved to the Garden Of Remembrance on East Parade. In 1928 two miniature cenoptaphs were added, each with two bronze plaques containing the names of those who died in the Great War. On the inside and outsides  of the cenotaphs are bronze laurel wreaths. The Unveiling and Dedication ceremony took place on Sunday 11th November 1928. The inscription on the central plinth reads;

"Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori."

In memory of the Rhyl men who fell in the South African War while serving their Sovereign and their country.

This Garden is dedicated in grateful memory to those who lost their lives in the 1939-45 war.

The outer cenotaphs are both headed: 1914-18 erected by public subscription.
